LANDSCAPE DESIGN & BUILD

A landscape design plan illustrating various features such as native trees and shrubs, a water catchment and swale, large boulders for seating and climbing, an observation landing, wide stairs, existing oaks, and ground covers along the swale and stairs.

Design Process

A landscaping design plan showing fire-resistant features including various trees, shrubs, rocks, and a lawn, with labels describing each element for fire safety.

Phase 1: Site Analysis & Conceptual Design

We begin with a comprehensive site analysis — assessing soil, sun exposure, drainage, and existing conditions — alongside a discovery conversation to understand your goals, lifestyle needs, and vision for the space. From there, we develop several conceptual design options, each paired with preliminary plant and hardscape selections to communicate the character and spatial organization of the proposed design.

Phase 2: Planting & Materials Design

Once a direction is selected, we refine the chosen concept into a cohesive planting and materials plan. This phase establishes the plant palette and hardscape materials that will define seasonal color, texture, and habitat value across the site.

Phase 3: Construction Documentation & Bid Package

We produce a final, dimensioned design package suitable for contractor bidding — including a detailed planting plan with placement and quantities, hardscape layout and specifications, and material takeoffs needed to carry the project into installation.

Build Process

Contractor Bidding

Drawing on our network of trusted, vetted landscape contractors, we manage the bidding process on your behalf — soliciting up to three competitive bids for you to review and select

Construction Administration

We partner with your selected contractor to source the plant and hardscape materials specified in the design, and conduct regular site visits throughout construction. Acting as your advocate and the design's advocate, we oversee installation to ensure the project stays on budget while achieving the intended design intent, function, and form.

Establishment & Long-Term Success

We conduct a final walkthrough and provide a plant establishment and maintenance schedule tailored to your garden. Over the following year, we follow up at key intervals to confirm the landscape is establishing well and filling in as intended.

  • "Meg was wonderful to work with! She took our vague idea of "California native meets tropical garden and orchard to feed a toddler" into a reality from design to implementation. She provided clear design ideas with a full plant list and worked with us to find the best plants that would work for our family. She also interviewed and worked with contractors to bring the design to life. She was so open to ideas and brought a lot of knowledge to the design.

  • Working with Meg was a pleasure. She is talented and thoughtful, responsible, organized and responsive. She was very sensitive to my preferences and budget. The front and back yards she designed are just what I wanted, and I am so excited to see the plants grow. Her knowledge is encyclopedic, and she radiates a love and enthusiasm for her work. I highly recommend her!

  • Our garden has been installed and it’s slowly growing and taking shape. The pollinators are starting to arrive, attracted to all of the native plants and I can’t wait to harvest my first salad greens in the winter from our new kitchen garden. Meg was a pleasure to work with and is clearly very passionate about what she does.
