HARVARD HEIGHTS
Status: Installed
Materials: Flagstones, boulders, wood stumps for seating, wooden raised beds
Flora: California natives, edibles, cut flowers, citrus trees
In this Harvard Heights backyard, we transformed an 800-square-foot lot into a functional space for food production and entertaining. Working with the site's full morning sun and partial afternoon light, we preserved the existing lemon and kumquat trees. We added two raised beds for rotating seasonal vegetables like lettuce, kale, fennel, and cucumbers. A wood-fired pizza oven and picnic table seating ten accommodate the family's love of cooking and entertaining. A dedicated cut-flower and herb zone provides fresh blooms for the house and culinary herbs for the kitchen.
