OAK GROVE HABITAT RESTORATION
Status: Installed
Materials: Boulders, river rock gravel, railroad ties, Corten steel
Flora: California natives that thrive in Oak woodlands
Construction: Green Earth Landscapes
In this La Cañada Oak Woodland, we redesigned and updated a veggie planting bed by moving the stairs to the shaded area and repositioning it to the sunniest area. We removed a chain-link fence and replaced it with Corten steel hogwire fence to deter wildlife from entering the backyard. We replaced a steep, rickety staircase that was never used with a gradual staircase and an observation deck that winds through the existing oaks without disturbing their roots. We removed non-native species, including Yucca, Crepe Myrtle, and Fan Palms, replacing them with Southern California natives suited to dry woodlands.
